7 Reasons to Love Your Cycle

There are secrets to creating a healthy, nourished cycle.

It’s time to broadcast the brilliance and beauty accessible by way of menstrual cycle awareness and transform the collective consciousness around being people with periods.

For women who care about community, other women, family, and the future of our girls I believe this matters because it supports girls to grow up with dignity and feeling the pride of becoming a woman that can come with menstruation.

Many people, women especially, are growing tired of the cultural margin that all things menstrual are beholden to. We are done with tiptoeing around the subject to caretake other people’s discomfort, to not embarrass or offend, we are no longer willing to pretend this life giving power we hold in our bodies is just for stuffing and padding and tolerating until we can harness it with perinatal hormones.

The leaders at Red School, Alexandra Pope & Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer list 7 powerful reasons to love your cycle that I’m thrilled to broadcast here.

Menstrual Cycle Awareness:

  • is a diagnostic tool that provides feedback about your vitality. It’s truly the 5th vital sign.

  • is your number one self-care and stress management system. When you work it, it works.

  • provides a customized compass orienting you to what’s important to you at every moment. The more you tune in, the greater the lessons from your inner wisdom.

  • allows oxytocin to flow with menstruation WHEN YOU STOP to relish in the glory of it and don’t suppress and suffer through.

  • provides altered states of consciousness. I’m not kidding. Mamas who’ve been to labor land know this departure from the consciousness we live with daily into a place of altered focus and sense of purpose. This. Every month. You don’t have to have babies for this!

  • is a female shamanic path of healing and toward greater awareness. By tuning in to the energies of the “wise wise west” (see my posts about the Luteal Phase) we orient our compass and can journey far with our true north point ever near.
